Périgord deep inside, Jacques de Maleville is a great historical figure, often poorly known. He first played an important role in Périgord starting with the writing of the book of grievances of the city of Domme which is a model of its kind.

His participation in the drafting committee of the Civil Code with François-Denis Tronchet, Félix Bigot de Préameneu and Jean-Etienne Portalis, played a decisive role in his national career. This study is the first real biography devoted to him.

His life is a novel, often a subject of astonishment, that we will follow day by day... He owes his success to his intelligence, tenacity and ability to go through the many regime changes of a long period of turmoil, without his brilliant career suffering, quite the contrary, marking each time a progress in the life of honors.

To follow his career, after having drawn a painting of the Dommois country in Sarladais in theeighteenth century and located his family, we will follow the chronological unfolding of the career of Jacques de Maleville.

After many years of fruitful collaboration in the associative framework, Louis-François Gibert had hoped that Jean-Jacques Despont and Claude Lacombe would ensure the continuity of his current publications. This was the case for the following biography of Jacques de Maleville (1741-1824), editor of the Civil Code.

Thanks to Les Livres de l'Ilot, and the Fanlac printing house, and under the coordination of Claude Lacombe, the biography of the "last of the four", as Thierry Lentz, the director of the Fondation Napoléon, wrote, can finally see the light of day, accompanied by the label " 2021 Year of Napoleon "
