Summer 1944: the hour of liberation finally strikes in Périgord. But a climate of terror will continue for those who had not chosen the right side: it is the intensification of the purge that opens.

A certain André Urbanovitch alias "Doublemeter" finds himself invested with the power of life and death by his leaders after having largely raged in the Double. He will continue to be zealous to hunt down militiamen, collaborators and profiteers, real and pretended. But he was not the only one to have poured into the purge and it was worth mentioning it. Thus, this period will still be marked by the blood of innocent victims, the settling of personal scores and
Policies.

The winding path of this native of the Balkans, a true character in a novel, had already been traced in 2002 by Jean-Jacques Gillot and Jacques Lagrange in L'épuration en Dordogne selon Doublemètre. This time, with new archives and new testimonies, they refined the portrait of a man with many facets and an opportunism in hell. Not exempt from personal initiatives, he was nevertheless largely instrumentalized before continuing, with his own hand, his conquest of the artistic circles of Paris undertaken before the war.

The reader will note that history is never "set in stone" and that this period still leaves wounds open.

The authors:

Jean-Jacques Gillot is the eldest son of a very young sailor of the Free France at the time when his grandparents supported the Secret Army. Master of Law, graduate in political science, doctor in contemporary history and reserve officer, he was a senior manager and director of institutions of a large public company. Author, co-author and research director of a dozen books appreciated by renowned academics, he is a founding member of the Committee for a Scientific and Critical History of the Occupation (HSCO).

Jacques Lagrange was the son of a railway worker and precocious resistance fighter who resigned from the Communist Party after the war. As a teenager, he had lived through the times of the Occupation and those of the Liberation. Recently deceased, he was a prolific historian, a publisher of excellent reputation and a pillar of the Historical and Archaeological Society of Périgord as much as he was a journalist, entrepreneur and deputy mayor of Périgueux in charge of heritage for three successive mandates. This new edition is a tribute to his memory.
